H&M have release some teaser images for their upcoming SS17 mens studio collection and it takes althleisure to a new level. It’s futuristic and minimalist to the point it resembles sister brand COS, not saying that’s a bad thing but it’s quite uncanny. The annual studio collection is a limited edition capsule collection that focuses on premium materials and trend led pieces, stepping away from H&M’s more democratic roots. SS17 here is all about clean lines, feminine cuts and layered silhouettes – building on the success of althleisure last year this offering brings a refreshing twist with the addition of leather and transparent pieces. The palette is monochrome with a brave splash of pink, pink was huge last autumn and the femme trend started to pick up in the high street so this bolder shade is definitely a brave step. The lack of boundaries between smart and casual here is interesting, it’s a very unique look so it will be interesting how this trend filters down to H&M’s more accessible menswear lines – the studio collection normally sets the aesthetic across the board and gives us early indications of what to expect. The androgynous feel to some of the looks is a really strong statement here, it makes the collection feel very adaptable and versatile. The monochrome look pretty much sums up my wardrobe, bringing layering through to spring with lightweight materials is an easy way to build up a strong, capsule wardrobe that’s interchangeable through the day – packing light for holiday just got easier. Can’t wait to see it hitting stores, for me H&M is unbeatable on the high street for fashion that is current, on trend but also affordable and ethical. It’s a big yes from me!
