It’s terrifying to think that there are less than 3 weeks left of this year, before you know it Christmas would have been and gone and we will all be trying to think of our resolutions for 2015. With the new year fast approaching the internet has been swamped with S/S15 lookbooks from some of my favourite brands, today that comes in the form of the latest menswear lookbook from River Island. Summer fashion is always very hit and miss for me, with so much emphasis on vibrant colours and patterns it can sometimes be too overwhelming. That definitely isn’t the case here, River Island have taken a different approach to summer styling and have taken it back to basics with dramatic effects.
There are no garish prints or patterns to be seen here, no recycled beach scene T’s and no neon – just a cohesive collection of minimalistic, traditional menswear. This feels like a very mature aesthetic for RI and to me it’s a statement of how far their menswear has come in recent seasons, they have become a destination on the highstreet for effortlessly stylish yet accessible menswear. The collocation has a very neutral colour palette of greys and white with indigo blue as an accent colour throughout, attention to detail in textures and silhouettes helps to create a refreshingly modern look. Mixing fashion and utility the S/S15 lookbook is an interesting mix of tailored cuts with a sports luxe element that create casual pieces that maintain a high fashion feel. I love the use of mesh, camouflage and authoritarian outerwear to give it an almost futuristic vibe, a really interesting move from River Island – can’t wait to see it in the stores!
