Every now and then you come across a brand that stands out from the pack, that’s exactly what happened when I was introduced to Farnol – a London based brand that focuses on producing ethical clothing in a sustainable way. With such a huge focus on the environmental impact of the fashion industry at the moment, it’s really interesting to see the brands that are fully aware of their impact and the choices they can make to limit that.
Farnol creates minimalist, Scandi inspired menswear in limited runs – made of ‘end fabrics’ repurposing offcuts from production to create new products. The brand offers small collections of essentials, focusing on the ethical credibility of the garments instead of relying solely on bold and risky fashion statements.
The collection is designed and manufactured in the UK which dramatically reduces the carbon footprint of the items, avoiding international production and shipping which is common in most fast fashion production chains. Even price perception has been considered to move away from disposable fast fashion, to introduce the worth of a garment again to create long term investments in your wardrobe – items to treasure and build a capsule wardrobe around.
If you’re interested in ethical menswear and believe fashion can really be sustainable then Farnol is definitely a brand to look out for. Being a small operation their ability to be agile and reactive going to be a key to their success here – I’m definitely sold on the idea!
