Following on from their last installment of summer Spanish fashion giant Zara have launched the editorial campaign for their upcoming AW16 collection. It may seem eager but we are almost done with summer as far as fashion is concerned, sale season is winding down so it’s all about the new collection hitting the stores. Zara is always my go to destination for sophisticated menswear, their focus is always on an elevated approach to styling that always feels more premium than other high street retailers. The editorial for this collection is shot in black and white and feels rather emotionless which is perfect symmetry for the weather we will see that season, the lack of emotion rounds it all off with a nice masculine edge. Layering is key for any AW season but strangely this year layering has been one of the biggest summer trends, no surprises that Zara have really ramped it up for this lookbook. Zara have always hit a home run in autumn for me, it’s definitely a season where they play to their strengths. The outerwear here is beautiful, a mix of brave styles combined with classic essentials like the trench, leather jacket and flight jacket. Tailoring is key here with slimline knits and structured trousers – it’s all about effortless sophistication. Knitwear as always is as a big part of the lookbook with the trusty rollneck making a return to prominence, knowing Zara they will also crack out their trusty cable knits and embellished sweaters that have becoming a menswear trademark for them. The lookbook is light on accessories which is strange for AW however it gives a nice clean aesthetic to the looks which isn’t a bad thing. Overall I love the feel of the collection in particular the dark feel to the outfits, it should be trickling down to stores this month – if you’re still in SS16 mode check out their lookbook while it lasts!
